Upcoming Maine Recovery Month Events

September is National Drug & Alcohol Addiction Recovery Month in the United States. Sponsored by the  Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), the month provides a platform to celebrate people in recovery and those who serve them.

Maine will be celebrating with several events statewide. Here are some of the events currently planned:


Broadening the Base for Recovery: Promoting Recovery Pathways in the 21st Century, a Bangor area summit on addiction recovery featuring Maine Attorney General Steven Rowe

Thursday, September 4, 2008, 8:30am – 4:00pm @ Bangor Civic Center
Speakers, panel discussion & breakout groups for community-focused discussions

Reception and recovery celebration from 4:00pm – 6:00pm

Our Stories Have Power, a media workshop for people in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction

Saturday, September 13, 2008, 10:00am – 2:30pm @ University of Maine, Augusta
Training on how to use recovery stories in the media and in community-based presentations to educate and lessen stigma

Recovery & Wellness Resource Fair

Wednesday, September 24, 2008, 2:00pm – 4:00pm @ Preble Street Resource Center’s Wayside Soup Kitchen
Free food, prizes and the opportunity for Portland’s vulnerable communities to access 20 local service providers, including Crossroads for Women
