Cumberland Commons is an 8-unit transitional housing development in Windham, Maine built to provide safe, transitional living arrangements to single adults who have completed a substance abuse treatment program or who have been affected by a loved one’s addiction.
Transitional housing provides residents the opportunity to consistently practice independent living skills in a healthy, sober and safe environment. Tenants are strongly encouraged to continue to participate in a recovery program throughout their residency. All residents must have at least 3 months of sobriety and be committed to living a sober lifestyle.
Cumberland Commons has five 2-bedroom and three 3-bedroom apartments. One of these apartments offers the flexibility of sharing rent responsibilities with other roommates. Roommate matches are arranged by Crossroads, and tenants will be charged the same fee even if another roommate leaves. Women and men living in apartments without roommates may live with their minor children.
Cumberland Commons accepts a variety of subsidized housing programs for its occupants, though those with resources will be charged a reasonable rental rate. All utilities are included in the rent.
